Access to Primary Care
At Farnham Road Practice we continue to provide our usual service to our patients. However we have had to adjust our priorities in response to the coronavirus pandemic. We are currently prioritising patients who require urgent medical attention and administering covid vaccinations. This may mean that it takes longer for you to receive care for some routine matters.
Hospitals have reduced or stopped work in some areas in order to cope with the number of patients suffering from coronavirus. This may mean it takes longer for you to receive appointments at hospital including for scans and other investigations. Hospitals continue to manage urgent health matters including referrals for cancer investigations.
Please do contact us if you are concerned about an aspect of your health. We hope that you understand why we have made these changes to the way that we are working and that you will bear with us during this difficult time.

Covid-19 testing site comes to Slough
The first hybrid walk-in and drive-in testing centre in the country has been set up in Slough and is now open for testing.
The testing centre will be based in the Montem Car Park, Montem Lane and anyone with symptoms – and for the first time people who are not symptomatic but concerned they may be infected – will be able visit for a test either by foot or in a car. Click here to find out how to access.

Temporary suspension of minor injury and illness services at Slough Walk in Centre
The minor illness and injury unit at Slough Walk in Centre is to be temporarily suspended as part of the national effort to combat Covid-19 (coronavirus).
In recent weeks local health services have changed the way they work in order to support the national effort to halt the spread and the impact of the virus.
Hospitals have postponed some elective surgery, GPs have moved to a phone or online initial appointment system and many other services are operating remotely – all in line with national guidance.
Many NHS staff have been redeployed into new, temporary roles, to increase the response to Covid-19 and to support those treating the most seriously ill patients.
The impact of the virus and the national lockdown – with most people now staying at home as instructed – has resulted in attendances at the Slough Walk in Centre falling by 73 per cent.
In order to make the best use of resources, local NHS commissioners have taken the decision to suspend services at the Slough Walk in Centre from Thursday 30 April. This will allow clinicians from the unit to be redeployed to where their skills can be put to the best use. This could include additional support to the Out of Hours Service, or home visiting to support GP practices in the management of patients with covid-19 symptoms
Our top priority is to keep our patients and staff safe and to ensure patients get the care they need. Patients will still be able to access treatment for minor ailments via their GP surgery, which they can access by phone or online. All GP surgeries, are offering alternatives to visiting surgeries in person, so we are asking that patients do not go to their practice unless they have a face-to-face appointment with a GP or nurse confirmed. The Chapel Medical Practice, at the same site as the Slough Walk in Centre remains open for these specific pre-booked face-to-face appointments. Anybody needing treatment for injuries such as suspected fractures should still attend their local Accident and Emergency unit in the normal way:
- Wexham Park Hospital, Slough
- Frimley Park Hospital, Frimley
- Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading
- Hillingdon Hospital.
This is a temporary measure aimed at making the best use of valuable clinical expertise and resources during extraordinary times. NHS East Berkshire Clinical Commissioning Group, which plans and funds the majority of health services provided to local people, will continue to monitor the situation and will work with local people, the local authority, NHS England and other partners to ensure that East Berkshire residents who use Slough Walk in Centre will continue to receive the services they need.
The CCG would like to thank local people for their understanding while these changes are in place and also for their continued support to the lockdown measures in order to stop the spread of the virus.
